Grandma's Chocolate Surprise Pie in 15 easy steps




What do you need?


  • 195 grams of pure chocolate
  • 300 grams of fine sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 95 grams of flour
  • 150 grams of butter
  • some vanilla flavoured sugar (optional)
  • an oven
  • a microwave or something to melt the chocolate bain marie*
  • some bowls
  • a fork



How do you make it?


  1. Preheat the oven at 160° Celsius.
  2. Seperate the egg whites and yolks of 3 eggs.
  3. Break the other 3 eggs. Add them to the yolks.
  4. Mix the egg whites with 50 grams of sugar.
  5. Mix the egg yolks with 250 grams of sugar.
  6. Melt the chocolate. You can choose to put the chocolate 3 minutes in the microwave at 650 Watt or you melt it bain marie*.
  7. Add the melted chocolate to the egg yolks and mix real good.
  8. Add the egg whites, flour and butter. 
  9. Mix untill you get a dark smooth mixture.
  10. You can add some vanilla flavoured sugar while mixing if you like.
  11. Fill the baking plate with water.
  12. Pour the mixture into small bowls.
  13. Bake everything 15-30 minutes at 160 degrees Celsius.
  14. While baking, poke regularly with a fork in the chocolate surprise pies. Take the pies out of the oven if melted chocolate, but no crumbles stick on your fork.
  15. Serve while still warm.

*NOTE: "Bain marie": Fill a bowl with water. Put another bowl with the chocolate on top of it. Heat the water in the bowl below. The steam will make the chocolate melt.
